The Department of Sociology at St. Xavier’s Arts and Science College  was established in the year2021.  The  Department offers a BA Programme in Sociology (6 Semester) under Choice Based Credit Semester System (CBCSS).  The faculty of the department aims to promote scientific understandings of social life and to develop sociological imagination among students. 

The department trains students to understand the social structures and to grasp the social processes  by placing emphasis on integrated learning based on classroom lectures, interactive tutorials, use of audio-visual materials, seminars , extension lectures and coordinated-multi pronged internal assessment.   

The department offers co-curricular activities including that of field visits which contribute to the development of social and anthropological understanding among our budding Sociologists.
